About

Dr. Tonya Holland has been teaching music for over 25 years. Her students have spanned all ages from toddler to senior adult and all levels from beginner to advanced. Aside from holding a DMA in Piano Performance, Pedagogy and Literature from James Madison University, she is Lifetime Certified with Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and has completed sales training certifications with both Steinway New York and Kawai piano companies.

Dr. Holland is currently the Director of Music Ministries at King’s Grant Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, conducting the Sanctuary Choir, Handbell Choir, and Praise Team. Her previous experiences also include Piano Specialist at Schmitt Music Denver, adjunct instructor at James Madison University and Bridgewater College teaching classes such as Piano Pedagogy, Private Piano Lessons, Music Theory, Intro to Western Music, and Class Piano, and accompanying JMU Chorale. She has also conducted several choral groups from children’s choirs to auditioned adults and been a vocal coach to many singers performing every genre from opera to country music. As a collaborative & solo pianist, singer, and conductor, her work spans the canon of High Art music from the 1400’s to today, Opera, Musical Theater, Broadway, Traditional Church and Contemporary Praise & Worship, Movie Hits, Pop/Rock/Country and more.

For years, Dr. Holland has reached out to help students love music and given them the tools they needed to succeed whether as a professional or just enjoying music in their own homes. Now she can help you move forward in your musicianship sharing her lifelong tips for solo and collaborative work, theory, technique, improvisations, and how to have fun making music!
